Influenza and COVID-19 Updates

U.S. Influenza Activity is elevated across most of the country – Week ending December 28, 20241
- As of December 28, reports of Influenza-Like Illness continues to increase and is elevated across most of the country.
- Approximately 18.7% of specimens tested are positive for Influenza. Majority of viruses are Influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) for the season.
- As of December 28, 6.8% of outpatient visits were for Influenza-Like Illness (ILI).
- 6.9% of deaths were attributed to pneumonia, influenza, or COVID-19 (PIC), which is below the epidemic threshold of 7.7% for this time period.²
- Two pediatric deaths associated with influenza have been reported this week.
U.S. COVID-19 Activity-Data as of December 28, 2024³
- There have been 1,214,516 total deaths in the United States since January 1, 2020.
- As of December 28, the test positivity rate is 7.1% for the past week, which is an increase from the previous week.
- As of December 28, there were 3.1 COVID-19 hospital admissions per 100,000, which is an increase from the previous week.

- On December 9, 2022, recommended updated (bivalent) COVID-19 boosters for children ages 5 years and older in the United States.
