PDI Perspective Interview: In the Lab
PDI Director, Laboratory Sciences & Services, James Clayton, addresses how disinfectants impact SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. In this interview, he will discuss how surface disinfectants can be effective against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, an enveloped virus, by outlining the method in which the efficacy of disinfectants are tested, as well as the science behind the process.
Excerpt from the interview:
If I was speaking to healthcare professionals, I would tell them how excited I am about the science and what is telling us. So, we went into this pandemic believing that this virus was susceptible to disinfection. And certainly, that’s how it’s proven to be. We’re learning more about the virus every single day. There’s a lot of people working in this space, obviously, to understand the virus and how it transmits, how it behaves in the environment, how long it remains in the environment and how long it remains infectious.
