We asked Tom McCurdy, our new Senior Vice President and General Manager of PDI Healthcare, a few questions. Read what he had to say:
My background is a healthy mixture of consumer, medical device and private equity experience. I began my career with Procter & Gamble, where I learned the profession of selling, the value of providing solutions to customers, and the importance of accountability. I was recruited by Boston Scientific into the medical device industry, where I was fortunate to earn numerous assignments. These positions provided me with unique experiences, all of which broadened my skillsets and led to added responsibility. After 18 years at BSC, we entered the world of Private Equity as a carve out business unit. This start-up role was a fantastic experience and further developed leadership skills transitioning an entire team from one company to another. After a successful two years, I was recruited to Haemonetics, to lead the Hospital Business unit in a turnaround effort. This was accomplished by building a leadership team focused on achieving excellent results while instilling a culture built on people, accountability, and performance throughout the entire organization. I was then promoted to President, Global Plasma, which was a cross-functional General Management role focused on developing the strategic direction of the business, developing & commercializing new products, improving the financials, converting new business, and prioritizing organizational development.
What attracted you to PDI?
My professional experiences have tended to focus on businesses which improve the safety and well-being of others. PDI is a perfect fit as its mission, products, principles, and employee base are fully dedicated to infection prevention, which has such an enormous impact on the health and well-being of people, as well as has enormous responsibility to favorably impact the long-term economics of the entire healthcare system.
What makes you most excited for the future of PDI?
There is a great deal to be excited about with PDI. Candidly, although the question asks about the future…..there is no reason to wait for the future in order to be excited! From my vantage point, so many wonderful people have laid an outstanding foundation….a platform from which to grow. Our challenge is to understand what so many dedicated PDI associates have already delivered and further understand the needs of our customers in an ever-changing and developing healthcare market, such that we deliver meaningful innovation, (products, programs, & services) making it very difficult for our customers to consider living without us. Achieving this will truly unlock the value of PDI to our associates, our customers, & the entire market.
