The HAI Progress Report shows that significant reductions were reported in 2012 for nearly all infections. Central line-associated bloodstream infections and surgical site infections continue to approach the 5-year goals set in the National Action Plan to Prevent Health Care-Associated Infections. The report shows minimal decreases for both hospital-onset C. difficile infections and hospital-onset methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bloodstream infections. Catheter-associated urinary tract infections increased. This signals a need for additional prevention efforts to meet the 5-year goals for these infections.
