CDC Investments in CLABSI Prevention Produce Substantial Benefits

Since the 1960s, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has invested in increasing the awareness, acceptance and execution of tactics to avert central line-associated bloodstream infections, and according to a new study in Health Affairs, this investment has paid dividends. In an 18 year period between 1990 and 2008, upwards of 40,000 to 75,000 CLABSIs were prevented in Medicare and Medicaid patients in critical care units.
