How SSIs are Prevented

How SSIs are Prevented

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated in its January 2015 report there were 157,500 surgical site infections (SSIs) after inpatient surgery in 2011. It also reported about 3 percent resulted in death, with 75 percent of deaths attributed to SSIs. As the list of to-dos grows before surgery, companies are also expanding their selections of tools and technology for nurses and surgeons as they prepare to prevent SSIs. For instance, one of the first steps in the preparation process is to wipe down all the equipment to remove dust that might have settled from the day before. PDI and other companies have developed wipes and cleaners specifically for this task.
