Hospital Hand-Washing Rates Remain High
Nine out of 10 Lee Memorial Health System hospital employees wash their hands before and after contact with patients and unclean materials, the health system's infections control team reported this week. That 91 percent rate of "hand-hygiene compliance" — markedly higher than that reported just a few years ago — follows a decade-long effort to monitor staff cleaning habits and hammer home its importance in preventing the spread of deadly germs. The health system reported nearly identical rate in 2014.
