Equipping the infection-free facility
Hudson Garrett, Vice President, Clinical Affairs, PDI, urged the pursuit of balance between the good and the bad."There is a very fine balance between a truly germ-free healthcare environment and the potentially detrimental effects that the presence of no bacteria can have on the microbiome of healthcare," Garrett noted. "It is certainly the goal and target of infection prevention and control efforts to achieve a healthcare delivery dynamic where no patient endures the consequences of an HAI. There are, however, important components of our healthcare ecosystem and also community environments where bacteria play unique and instrumental roles in protecting our immune systems and ensuring a proper immunological response takes place when a ‘threat’ emerges to us."
